Tribute
To Elvis
By Shirley Garten
To commemorate the 58th birth-
day of Elvis Presley on Jan. 8, the
postal service of the U.S. put the
Elvis stamp on sale at post offices
nationwide. Even in a city as small
as Hinton, 5000 Elvis stamps sold
out quickly. Over 3000 were sold
Fri., Jan. 8, and 2000 more sold out
almost as soon as they reached the
post office.
The stamp depicts Elvis as a
young man. The postal service held
an election last year to see if the
stamp would show the young Elvis
or the mature Elvis and, as previ-
ously stated, fans chose the young
Elvis. The Elvis st:amp is a fitting
tribute to the king of rock and roll.
