IN THE LIBRARY
It seems %he best of times" is winning, at ]eaxt in the tiret weel
of 1991. No sooner did we finish writinglast week's article for the Hinton
News about our precarious financial dtuation, when a mall ivory
colored envelope arrived and in it a chzck for $7,000 from Mr. Gene Fife
to help us get through the rest of our flsl year. Needle to say there
have been smiling faces around HERE!
Thanks to Mr. Fife's generosity Ole Inchy haspassed $13,000, and
with the help of some smaller but also very welcome donations from
some other generous folks, ia well on his way to $14,000. Our goal of
$16,000 appears to be within our grasp. We continue to face ( as did
everyone) increasing costs and may need to rai even more operating
capital if we are to maintain services at the present level, but the arrival
of Mr. Fife's wonderful gift does make our future appear much less
menacing.
We also need to thank!
The Summers County Association of Retired School Employees for
placing a beautiful edition of Paul Revere's RidLin the Library in
memory of Bonnie Ferrell and a wonderful book on
American Furniture in the Library in memory of Mr. Wilbur Farle'"'"
The Hinton Service Club for giving us Better Homes and Gardens'
in memory of Virginia Wait.
And Mrs. Thelda Weeks, who has given ua an original
Summers County by James Miller, in memory of her husband, E. I
Weeks.
All of these are lovely additions to our Library shelves and we thank
those who have chosen to remember friends and loved ones With a gift;
to the Library.
