Summers County High School
junior Paul Martin has been selected
as the Student of the Month at his
high school. Paul was selected by
the school's faculty for this
recognition based in part on his
academic and extra - curricular
activities and accomplishments.
Paul is a member of the National
Honor Society and has maintained

the 9th grade. Paul is an active
member of New Hope United

IN THE LIBRARY
During the fall, you may have noticed the Friends of the Library busil:
selling raffle tickets on a $100 bill. The drawing on December 16th produce
a winner, Marilyn Epperly of Roanoke,"VA. She bought her ticket fron
Margie Hank. The Friends netted $407. Thanks to everyone who sold o:
bought tickets.
The annual book sale is over for another year. Almost every book fount
its way to a new home and the Friends netted a record $1346.00.
While there will be no more old books for sale until next fall, there a
some new ones available at the Library including: - History and Genealog
of Rockymount Baptist Church for $25.00; - The History of Summen
County by Judge Miller for $35.00; - the Cemetery Book for $47.70;
Frontier Defence of the Greenbrier and Middle New River Country fm
$20.00.
Summers County Afghans looking gorgeous in blue and cream, are onc
again available for $40.00 Money raised from the above mentioned fund
raisers goes into the Friends checking account. Some of it was used thi
December to defray the expenses for a Christmas party given on Decembez
14th in the Library for LAMP students and tutors.
LAMP, the Library's literacy program, has had a lot to celebrate since
our new year began July 1. Over 50 people have received help. 7 LAMP
students passed their GED test given in the fall. One of'our students was
picked as WV Laubach student of the year. And with a little financial help
from the Friends, we were able to celebrate with refreshments, gifts and a
visit from Santa. Thanks, Friends.
Announcements: The Book-Discussion Group will meet on the fourth
Wednesday of January at 7:30 PM in the Library to discuss Made in America
by Bill Bryson and to pick books to read and discuss for next year. Interested
in joining in? We have had a wonderful and simulating year and would
love to have you.
The Friends of the Library will meet at 3:30 on January 18th in the
Library.
Concerned Nurses To Meet
A program on "Depression" will be
given January 19 for Concerned
Nurses of West Virginia. Loretta
Baker, MSW, member of the
Academy of Certified Social
Workers, and Social Services
Director at The Brier, in Fairlea
Medical Center and Greenbrier
Physicians, and come straight to the
stop sign. Instead of following the
road to the right, come straight
ahead and it is the first building on
