The Pipestem Christmas Bird Counters are among the 50,000 volunteers participating in the National Audubon Society 99th Christmas Bird Count, December 18-January 3. The data collected by each count are then sent to National Audubon Society headquarters in New York. Count data are published annually by the National Audubon Society. The Christmas Bird Count is the longest running ornithological database. As we approach the count's centennial, it continues to grow in importance as a means to monitor the status of resident and migratory bird populations across the western hemisphere. Patients of all ages, their families and caregivers are invited to attend. Crohn's disease and colitis are disorders of the digestive tract that cause inflammation of the intestines. Both diseases affect men and women equally and appear to run in some families. Response to the initial meeting will determine the group's direction and the frequency of its meetings. Janet Hannah, RN, CGRN, will facilitate the meeting. Nasi, m the years, has become a crucial part of the United States Government's natural history monitoring database. Count data from 1900 to the present are currently available through the interactive Bird Source website, a cooperative project of the National Audubon Society-and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. This Year, for the first time all Count data will be generated on-line through the BirdSourse website. Compilers will be able to go online to BirdSource and enter and review their own data. For those without access to the web, paper forms may still be returned to National Audubon for online data entry by ornithology staff. For nearly a century the Christmas Bird Count has provided invaluable insight into the past and present status and health of continental bird population, as well as the general health of our environment. The CBC has proved to be a perfect example to how volunteer generated data is important. All counts are open to birders of all skill levels.
