a dream he had for many years -
the publication of a book about the
History of Roles Chapel Missionary
Baptist Church.
The book details how a small
rural church was established and
how it has always been debt free
even with all the renovations of the
church building.
It will also give an insight into
the pastors, the church leaders
and the church members whose
faithfulness and compassion for
others, especially for their young
pastors, shaped the church and
community.

James Harvey Canterberry grew
up on a farm near Roles Chapel in
Forest Hill
He now owns the farm from
which John Roles gave the land for
the Roles Chapel B.aptist Church
and cemetery.
He was a member of the church
until after his service in the U.S.
Army. He is a graduate of West
Virginia University.
For over 40 years he enjoyed
a career with Natural Resources
Conservation Service, U.S.
Department of Agricultural.
His passion for history and his
love of Roles Chapel prompted
him to write this book. Jim and
his wife, Becki, now l~ve in Cary,
North Carolina but enjoy spending
time at the family farm in Forest
Hill With their son and daughter,
their spouses and their six
grandchildren.
Two of the barns on the farm in
Forest Hill were featured in the
2011 book, "Barns-of Summers
County - West Virginia Heritage"
by Phyllis Campbell Whitley.
