BOX 1000 HINTON, WV 25951 Letter to the Editor Keep Cardinal Dear Editor: Amtrak's Cardinal is a huge benefit to the people of Summers and Mercer Counties. You can get on the train at Hinton in the morning and get off in New York that night. Heading West, you get on in the evening and arrive in Chicago the next morning Last month the fare to New York was $84. The longer trip to Chicago cost just $72. It would cost you more than that, just in gas, to drive. And on the train, you can eat, read, sleep, and walk around. Without the Cardinal, our closest passenger rail access would be in Washington, D. C. People need to understand that the Romney/Ryan ticket has vowed to "zero out" Amtrak entirely. No more Cardinal. We would become the only developed nation without passenger rail service. Hinton was built around the railroad. Once there were many passenger trains arriv:ing and le~iving Hinton every da~.: Nbw we're clown to one train; thre6 days a week. Let's vote to keep the Cardinal. Sincerely: Andrew Maier, Esq. Hinton Letter to the Editor Party Platform Decides Vote Dear Editor, The 2012 elections are upon us. The airwaves are full of conflicting information on which candidates will best serve our nation, states and local governments. How is a person supposed to sort through all that rhetoric and find the truth? Sadly, many have decided that their votes do not count, or will not make a difference. Many others are simply indifferent, all wrapped up in their own lives, oblivious to the consequences when good men do nothing. While I have voted in every election since adulthood, it has been a long time since I voted for someone I was really enthusiastic about. In most elections for the last two decades I have held my nose and voted, more so against candidates than for. During the chaotic 2000 elections I came to a simple solution for voting that has served me well and left me with a clear conscience. Contrary to all the political ads, this election is not about the economy, not about jobs, net about the debt or deficit spending; nor is this election about big government vs small government. Instead, this election is all about morality, the direction this nation is headed--into oblivion. For decades there has been an ongoing campaign for immorality. The public airwaves have followed in the footsteps of Hollywood, pushing the boundaries further and further from that which is decent. For the first time, a major national political party has publicly, blatantly and joyfully embraced a national policy incorporating immorality into its written platform. A party's platform sets forth in writing the party's principles and goals. Oh, there are many, many issues that could be discussed, but I'll point out just three that makes it so easy for me to vote. One national party platform clearly and unambiguously supports the destruction of unborn babies and opposes any effort whatsoever to stop any abortions and forces all taxpaying Americans to pay for those abortions via tax money subsidies. The other national party platform states "the unborn child has a fundamental in. dividual right to life which cannot be infringed.'As a Christian, how can I possibly vote for any candidate who is a member of a party that supports the destruction of innocent children! One national party platform clearly and unambiguously supports the destruction of the fundamental pillar of civilization, the family, by redefining the definition of marriage. Since the beginning of time marriage has been defined as a relationship between one man and By Roy TROOP MOVEMENT prepare sandwiches, pies and fruit, Committee is extremely grateful to WORLD WAR 1 take them to the passenger station the Talcott ladies who voluntarily When World War 1 came to an when trains were due to arrive and came to their assistance last end thousands of soldiers had to be dispense them from baskets andSaturday . . .
