Aug. 28, 2012 NAMED TO DEAN'S LIST Berklee College of Music announces that Gyasi Heus of Hinton ha3 earned placement on the Dean's List for the spring semester of the 2012 academic year. To be eligible for this honor, a full- time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.4 or above; a part- time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.6 or above. RETIRED RAILROADERS Retired Railroaders Meet NARVRE unit 100 will meet 1:00 p.m. Tuesday September 4 at the Senior Center, Hinton, lower level, members are urged to attend. MEET THE CANDIDATES The Summers County Republican Executive Committee is sponsoring a Meet the Candidates Picnic on Saturday, September 22 from 1 until 5 p.m. at the Sandstone Volunteer Fire Department. Hot dogs and hamburgers, drinks and all the fix'ins will be provided. Take this opportunity to meet your candidates and ask them the questions most pressing to you. YARD SALE The Hinton Ruritan Club will have a yard sale Saturday September 1, 2012, at the Shepherd's Center, Stokes Drive, starting at 7:30 A.M. Proceeds will be used to help with projects during the year. SCHOLARSHIPS The Hinton Ruritan Club awards two scholarships each year to graduating seniors at Summers County High School, and, also, is responsible for the Summers County Toy Fund each year at Christmas. COMMUNITY EVENT All Maverick and Bobcat football fans are invited to join Delegate John D. O'Neal for a tailgate dinner at Summers County High School on the night of August 31 from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Dinner will consist of grilled hot dogs, grilled kielbasa, chips, drinks, and dessert. Suggested donation is $5 and all proceeds will go to "The Committee to Elect John O2Neal" to represent District 28 in the House of Delegates from Monroe, Summers, and Raleigh counties. Come out and honor John and his fellow Bobcat Hall of Fame members. BABY SHOWER REACHH-Family Resource will be hosting a Community Baby Shower at the REACHH-Family Resource Center on August 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Baby Shower is for expectant parents and parents of babies under one year old.
