Call for Spring Discounts Terry Summers "Hooked" on the Weekends Pence Springs is known for having the best Flea Market in Southern WV. Now it has a new attraction called the "Catfish Hole" at Greenbrier Landing located directly across from the Flea Market on Rt. 3 between Talcott and Alderson. Since fishing has always been a summertime favorite the "Catfish Hole" is creating a popular weekend getaway for family fun. All ages are coming to enjoy the Friday and Saturday nightly fishing tournaments from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Registration starts at 5 p.m. The cost is $15.00 per rod with a 50% payout to the winner every hour for the biggest catfish. Prior to the Grand Opening on May 4, catfish, flatheads, Blue cats and Channel cats up to 60 lbs. had been stocked in over an acre pond to create a fisherman's delight. The fish are netted and weighed for you and a cash prize is also awarded for the biggest fish of the night. Tagged catfish are an extra bonus payout. Fishing and Camping seem to complete a summer weekend. In addition to the "Catfish Hole", Greenbrier Landing also owns the John Henry Campground on Lowell rd. in Pence Springs. This new Facility is ready for RV or campers. All utilities are on site for the 24 yearly leased lots along the Greenbrier River. 1/2 acre lots on river front property are for sale (owner financing available). Well, fantastic if you don't count that Derecho (or De Wrecko as Myra calls it because it wrecked so much). And while it was stark and dormy for our Waterslide Party, the library had a wonderfully successful Summer Reading Program this year. We had 52 children sign up to read 1,029 books. While we're not sure how many more were read, we do know that there were 35 kids who met tneir reading goal for a Grand Total of 726 books this summer. Amazing! Not only did we have a huge number of readers and books read but we also got to go out and about in our new bookmobile. Look for more info on community stops soon, as we expect to get her out on the road soon after the beginning of the school year. We would like to thank all our 'participants, parents, community supporters and volunteers This year we had 11 teen volunteers who, all together, worked over 136 hours. We would also like to thank the folks at Jumping Branch Elementary and the Board of Education, Greenbrier Terrace, Hedrick House, Pipestem State Park . & its Natur e Center, and the Park Service Visitors Center in Sandstone for allowing us to park our bookmobile for story times. We'll see ya next year!
