VETERAN MUSEUM HOURS Beginning June 1 the Veteran's Museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday thru Veteran's Day on November 11. This is an educational museum which displays local, national and international events from pre- history, the frontier Period, the Revolution the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, the Gulf Wars and to Afghanistan. Volunteers will be available to assist you. Admission is free. SCHOOL REUNION The 23rd. Annual Sandknob School Reunion will be Saturday, June 9th. at the Sandknob Methodist Church. All students, family and friends are invited to attend. Bring a picnic lunch and lawn chair and enjoy the day. CLASS OF 1972 The Hinton High School Class of 1972 will celebrated their 40th class reunion on Saturday, September 15 at Pipestem State Resort with a seafood buffet at 7 pm. MEETING CHANGED The Summers County Commission will not meet on Monday, June 4, due to scheduling conflicts on this date. The next meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. Contact Mary Beth Merritt, County Clerk at 304-466-7104 if you have any questions of if you have CANCER SOCIETY MEETING SCHEDULED The local group in Summers County working for The American Cancer Society will meet Tuesday, June 5 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Chestnut Revival Tea Room on Summers St. in Hinton. A lot of volunteers are needed to run the four day hot dog sale at the Hinten Kroger Store Parking Lot to be held June 29, 30, July 2 and 3. This hot dog sale is supported by Kroger management and put on by "The Kroger Team for Hope" but the team needs a lot of outside help to pull this off. Everyone is invited to attend this meeting on June 5th. ACWP YARD SALE On Saturday, June 2, (8 a.m. - 1 p.m.) the Summers County Humane Society will hold a yard sale at the Hinton Technology Building to help raise funds for their Animal Control and Welfare Project (ACWP}. ALL proceeds from the sale will go towards the primary ACWP programs of rescue and placement of Summers County dogs, and spaying or neutering dogs and cats in the county. So far this year, ACWP has already rescued 120 dogs and altered over 100 cats. The yard sale will feature a wide variety oi donated household items for sale at exceptional prices. Come out and see what you might find and support the Humane Society at the same time! Donations of household items to sell in the yard sale are welcome. Or bring items to the Tech Center on Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Allen McGraw Named HOBY .Ambassador Allen McGraw, 16, sophomore at Summers County High School in Hinton, has been named H O B Y ambassador to attend the W.Va. Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership H O B Y Seminar. He is sponsored by the Hinton's Womans Club and the Wednesday Club. The 2012 Seminar is scheduled to be held June 7-10 in Morgantown. H O B Y is dedicated to motivating tomorrow's 1 e a d e r s to "Empower...Lead...and Excel". Allen is the son of Priscilla McGraw who works at the Triangle One Stop in Hinton and Stewart McGraw, manager of Advance Auto Parts in Beaver. Allen enjoys a wide variety of activities including playing the guitar for the past seven years, reading various works of fiction, brushing up on mythologies, and listening to Iron Maiden and UFO. He has been a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Seventh Grade Council, a contender for the high school talent shows and for two years achieved second place in the high school's Poetry Out Loud. . Allen maintains a 3.9 grade point average and plans to attend the Government School fo the Arts at Davis Elkins College. The West Virginia H O B Y Seminar is recognized annually as one of the best programs in the nation and for 20 years has received Outstanding Service Site Award from the national H O B Y organization. The General Federation of Women's clubs has enabled hundreds of young leaders to attend the seminars. The W.Va. Ieadership seminar began :n 1978 with sophomores from 45 High Schools attending. Other participants from the child care community and potential child care providers may' also register to attend as long as seating is available.
