Foster Grandparent Program The Foster Grandparent program is sponsored by the WV Dept. of Education and employs men and women of diverse backgrounds over sixty year of age to work with young- sters at sites including schools, de- velopment centers, child care cen- ters, headstart progrmns and health care units. The Foster Grandparent program serves in many roles such as active listeners, companions, helpers, friends, tutors, role models and grandparents. News of a good program travels far. Forest Hill School has been involved in the Foster Grandparent program for eight years. Recently the school received a letter fixnn a former student who had moved to Fla. severs] years ago. This student had at one time partidpated in the Foster Grandparent Program at Forest Hill School and was inter- ested in getting a similar program started at her chool in Fla. Mrs. Brown, the principal of Forest Hill School and Mrs. Allen, the Fmter Grandparent, got together all the information needed in order to get a program started and sent it to the student. Anyone interested in be- coming involved with the Fomr Grandparents program can learn more about the program by calling in W.Va. 425-8738. AWARENESS GROUP WHAT." Presents CPR Program To Students Mrs. Hodge, Respiratory Therapy Technician and mother of Scott Garten, a 4th grader at Forest Hill School, recently presented a program about CPR to the students in K-6th grade. Mrs. Hodge brought Annie, a discarded dummy that she had very successfully repaired, to the school so the students could have hands on experience in learning CPR. While working with Annie, Mrs. Hodge made the procedure look so simple, that most of the students seemed to think it would be a breeze to perform the necessary steps. Af- ter demonstrating the process and explaining the dos and don'ts, Mrs. Hedge gave the students who wanted an opportunity, the chance to work with Annie. To the surprise of many, the chest expansions were not so easy and neither were the hand compressions. After the CPR program, Mrs. Hodge allowed any 4-6th grader who wanted to, the opportunity to listen to his or her heart beat. The students en- joyed the whole program and invited Mrs. Hedge back anytime for future health related programs. 11ds Settng MMhine Company has bran authoflzed to offw to the Public s qutlty of nm qei.l Ig91 WHITE HEA OUTY Z ZA urng n'- chime tat m made of METAL m on Ill kbd, Levi's canvas, upholsts, nylon, stretch, vinyl, dlk, EVEN SEWS ON LEATHER!
