Saunders Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary First United Methodist Church of Hinton. They are the parents of four chil- dren: Carolyn Fitzsimmons of Hill- dale, Sandra Lows of Vinton, Va., Rends Rowan of Roanoke and Char- les W. Saunders of Jumping Branch. They have seven grandchildren: Glenn Patton and Preston Charles Lows, Melissa Dawn and Susan Carol Rowan, Sara Fern and Tho- mas Fitzsimmons and Zachary Charles Saunders. All their children and grandchil- dren were present for the anniver- sary celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Saunders of 323 Ballengee St., Hinton, cele- brated their 50th wedding anniver- sary on Nov. 20th. with a family dinner party held at the Pence Springs Hotel and hosted by their children. Mr. and Mrs. Saunders were married on Nov. 24, 1943, in Blue- field, Va. and have lived their entire married life in Summers County. Mrs. Saundere is the former Enola Fern Vest. Mr. Saunders is a long- time Summers County educator and was serving as Superintendent of 6ummere County Schools at the time of his retirement in 1978. Griffith Creek Baptist Church News Reporter Kathy Harris Billy Burdette Feted With Going Away Party The Griffith Creek Baptist Church was the scene for avery special party in honor of Billy Burdette. Billy is Rtmsel R. Bragg Sere-icemen In The News the son of Bill and Linda Burdette of A]derson. It is never easy to say good-bye but it was made easier when Billy's family, friends and church family came together for an evening of fellowship. Decorations of blue and white decorated the fellowship hall. A large cake decorated with a lighthouse, boats and ocean scene carried out the idea of =GOING NAVY . Billy will be stationed in Miami for his basic training with the U.S. Navy. Christmas music and a variety of games were played by the group. A skit was acted out with Billy acting as a submarine that got a little =wet" when the periscope was not put down for the =Dive'. A Christ- mas story was acted out by the youth bringing smiles to everyone's face. Pastor Harris presented Billy with a new Bible from his Church family adding words of encouragement and guidance as this young man leaves his family and home to pursue his future, God would always be with him and the prayers of his Church Family. ARer a time of prayer, pizza, cookies, chips and soR drinks were served. Billy opened more gifts and served his cake to all his friends. We wish Billy much success and happi- ness as he serves his country and fellowman in the U.S. Navy. ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PLAY AT GRIFFITH CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH Dec. 18th. the Griffith Creek Baptist Church presented their annual Christmas program begin- sing at 7:00 p.m. IC D. Burdette, son of Kermit and Eva Burdette of Clay- ton, presented Christmas piano music prior to the program. The adult Christmas choir opened the program with a song entitled 'RVhen Christ was Born'. Pastor Eddie Harris welcomed everyone as they joined together for a congregational song and prayer. Pastor Harris turned the program over to announcer Randy Burdette. Songs, poems, reci- tations and plays were presented by the adults and youth of the church. The program closed with the na- tivity scene spotlighted and te strains of Silent Night played softly on the piano. Everyone was pre- sented a delicious treat to take home and enoy and an invitation to come back to Griffith Creek for other Christmas activities. Ruseel Bragg recently graduated from A.I.T. at Fort Georgia, Ga. He is a Radio Communication Special- ist and is now stationed at Ft. Ste- wart, Ga. His address is: Russel R. Bragg, Ace 3th. ENGR.
