Letter to the Editor Several media outlets have reported that U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is considering running for WV Governor in 2020. I hope he decides to remain in the U.S. Senate, where his independent voice represents the state he so proudly loves and serves. As a progressive Democrat, I have often disagreed with Senator Manchin on many issues. That said, I have never doubted his commitment to West Virginians. Disagreement, civil debate, and compromise are the cornerstones of our democracy. Senator Manchin exemplifies these qualities in the ever-increasing polarization in both houses of Congress. At the same time, we need new voices in West Virginia's Democratic Party, and fresh faces who will express the traditional values of the Democratic Party and give voters a clear choice on the multiple complex issues facing our state.
